Random musings on a Sept day

It's a gorgeous day today.  Hurricane Earl passed us by which was too bad because it is DRY DRY DRY.  It's time to aerate the lawn and reseed but I'm not going to do it until it at least rains some since the ground is so hard.

Here is a picture I tried to take of a goldfinch.  They are feasting in my yard but everytime I try to get close, they fly away.  This male is hidden behind the grass, to the upper right of the hibiscus bloom

This is a picture of the Gaura, Whirling Butterflies - it has been blooming all summer but looks very lacy and delicate these days.

The past three days, I've had my front and back porch painted and the steps in the front redone.  Everything is now nice and clean and I don't have to worry about people slipping while walking up the porch.

Front porch steps and newly painted floor

This picture is of a spider web that spanned the post on the porch over to the dogwood tree.  I don't think you can see it but you can see the bug in the middle of it.  Makes it look like it's suspended in mid-air.

My clothesline.  It was a perfect day to hang clothes.

Apparently the Chinese do not like to use dryers

Lastly, on the Splendid Table today, Lynne Rossetto Kasper (who I find too gushing but I always manage to have it on in the afternoon while in the kitchen) was speaking to the owner of the  Cultured Pickle Shop in Berkeley, CA.  I think I have found my new career.  A pickle shop in DC, peaches not allowed.  Kombucha anyone?

  1. I love Kombucha...and it's so easy to make. If you buy it in the store it's SO EXPENSIVE!

    Here's my Kombucha album...
